One of our favorite aspects of working with people is to have them come back to me for additional work. Josh and Wendi are excellent examples of this. Originally, Welcome Home was asked to look at their lower level floor plan and esign an office space which would accommodate Josh's, Wendi's, and their daughter, Olivia's needs. The design of the office gave everyone their space with the particular needs each had requested. Along with the office area a vanity for Olivia's bath was included. The next phase in the design was the lower level entertainment area and wet bar. Through the use of increased depths and heights we were able to design the perfect entertainment areas.
Phase three was for the kitchen remodeling. By utilizing the existing space, removing a window, and relocating appliances and removing a center island, an extremely functional kitchen design was developed. Areas of emphasis include the diagonal stove, the step out wall cabinet with seedy glass doors, and the raised bar with storage below the counter top. The rustic look of the knotty pine blended beautifully with the rest of the home.
Phase four of the process included the Great Room shelving. With the pitched ceiling, this provided a wonderful area which would not only display Wendi’s and Josh’s books but also many of their memories. Our design was able to incorporate a flat screen TV which would now be easily viewed. The design also balanced the area left and right of the fireplace to provide needed storage.
Phase five was the powder room. This room was an interesting challenge to utilize the limited space with a creative and unique look. The open areas on the left and right of the sink allow access to essentials. The granite that Wendi selected added to the whimsical feel to the room.
Phase six was the laundry room which again utilized existing space to the maximum for storage as well as interest. Wall cabinets were taken to the ceiling to increase storage.
It has truly been a privilege to work with Josh, Wendi and Olivia to reshape and redefine their home. It is only through a collaborative effort that we were able to develop something truly special and beautiful. This is a perfect example of how phasing the design process works.
